Herd Manager Required

A full-time position has arisen to join our team as a herd-manager on a large spring calving dairy farm. The farm is well laid out with excellent facility’s including. • 54 point Waikato rotary milking shed complete with ACR’s & auto plant wash • Alfco drafting gate • Cubicles • Large calving & calf rearing facilitys Key roles of the job will include: • Grassland management, weekly grass walk + feed wedge & feed allocation – We put a big focus on grassland management and science following all best practices. • Breeding – Heat detection, putting up cows for AI • General animal welfare • Record keeping for board Bia compliance • Farm maintenance • Shared milking roster We run a very simple grass-based system with a crossbred herd of cows. We practice anything that makes life easier and adds efficiency to the farm - All machinery work is contracted out with all focus on grass and cows, replacement heifers are sent to a contract rearer at 14 days and are returned before the point of calving, we practice flexible milking times such as 3in2 from 1st of August. We strictly aim to have a 5pm finish time outside of calving season. We are close to lots of amenities located just outside the town of Celbridge Co Kildare and less than a 30min drive to Dublin city centre.
