RW Dairy farming, myself (Rory Wellwood) came to Tasmania in 2017 from the UK seeking new opportunities in dairy farming. After managing a 700-cow dairy for 3 years, I was then offered the opportunity to lease a 400-cow dairy unit. Myself and my partner Emma, are now taking on the management of a 700-cow dairy unit for the 2022/23 season. RW Dairy Farming is seeking 2 enthusiastic individuals to join our team for the 2022/23 season. The positions start from July with calving starting from mid-august. We require individuals with skills in Grassland management Animal husbandry Tractor driving and operating machinery Ability to work in a team. Good work ethic, attention to detail. Good time management Driver’s license The Farm 700 spring calving dairy unit, 5 mins from Smithton Tasmania 220-hectare milking platform 40 bail rotary with ACRs ad automatic teat sprayer, feed pad and calving barn. 50% irrigated with center pivot and linear. Good laneways and infrastructure Targeting 450kgs+ milk solids from 1-1/2 tonnes of supplement The roles will involve being a part of the milking roster, feeding calves, managing pasture, setting up fences, feeding out silage, stock work. They will report back to Rory Wellwood/Emma Liersch. We will offer a competitive salary based on experience. We will provide a furnished farm house which the two successful applicants will share. We will provide a vehicle for your own transport. A flexible roster, with every other weekend off. The position will provide ongoing training and ability to attend local dairy events. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience large scale dairying in Australia. Tasmania has many national parks and has a world heritage site. All are easily accessible and well worth exploring. Melbourne and Sydney are only a short flight away for a weekend away. We are situated close to beautiful beaches and the town of Smithton which has all the amenities suitable for family life.
