Dairy Herd Manager

Stokestown Dairies are looking for a Dairy Herd Manager to manage their grass-based spring calving herd. The Job This farm is in Ballinea, Co Westmeath, 5 minutes from Mullingar town. http://mullingar.ie http://fleadhcheoil.ie The farm has excellent facilities and high performing cows. The farm has undergone lots of development in the last number of years, including a 50-point rotary parlour, Nedap collars, good roadways and well set up paddocks. We use contractors for most tractor work. Calves are contract reared off farm. As manager your main roles will include: Milking – supervise, maintain equipment and ensure hygiene and milk recordings Herd health - monitor health, vaccination plan, calving and breeding Grassland management – measuring and budgeting Winter feeding Manage a small team – through good communication and planning Health and Safety – for yourself and all others on the farm Budgets – assist with and monitor farm budgets If you are interested You should have: A passion for cows and a grass-based system Experience with livestock A drive to continually improve performance and the farm Enthusiasm and reliability A team working ethic as well as your own initiative Great communication skills Tractor licence and be competent at driving You should have the following but not essential as training will be provided: Grassland management skills Experience with dairy cows The ability to manage herd health What we can offer: Very competitive salary Rostered time off and flexibility We have accommodation secured for the successful candidate if required.
