Dairy Herd Manager

An exciting opportunity has come up for a working Herd Manager for a forward looking, modern Dairy Farm near Omagh, Co. Tyrone. Currently milking 200 Holstein cows increasing to 300 by autumn. A Dairy Herd manager who can work on their own initiative, take full charge of the dairy operation and drive it forward to maximise cow performance and profitability of the business. The successful candidate will be someone who is driven by a passion for wanting to succeed in whatever they do, but also has a proven track record in attention to detail and be able to communicate well. Organised and efficient with High standards of stockmanship and a keen eye for detail are vital for the role. Someone who can adapt to situations they are faced with and able to work under pressure at busy times · Responsible for the milking routine to ensure high standards of quality and cleanliness are maintained. Manage and delegate staff, including rota planning Grassland management – measuring grass, allocating feed to cows. · Animal management – implementing animal health protocols, breeding plans, meeting key KPIs, treating sick cows. Foot trimming and AI training an advantage. · Good Record keeping – medicine records, foot trimming records, Red Tractor, KPI’s The successful candidate will be exposed to all areas within the business, managing the milking herd, calf rearing, TMR feeding, transition cow management. The appointed person will liaise with, and be supported by the owners to set and achieve KPIs Accommodation suitable for family if necessary is available in an excellent 3-bedroom house on the farm.
